Zappa’s definition of music

FZ: If you get to the other definition of music that I use when I’m working on my stuff, it means the organization of any data.

BM: Visual, acoustic, smells …

FZ: Yeah, choreography, anything, any data. So long as you say to yourself, “I’m now making a musical composition of this stuff”, the composition can include stuff that’s living in this ashtray, whatever it is. So long as you willfully organize it into that object that you’re making. That’s the criteria that I would use.
